It’s Singapore’s version of a pasty/pie/samosa/empananda. But better than all of the above, we dare say!
Our traditional curry puff is a crimped, buttery pastry filled with meat, potatoes and aromatic curry spices. We actually have the British to thank for it. Legend has it that Singaporean-Hainanese chefs who worked for the British back in the colonial days fused Western pies with local spices, the curry puff.
The exact combination of the spices that make our curry puffs special is so secret it’s even locked in a bank vault in Singapore!
We think it’s one of the things the British regretted leaving behind in Singapore in 1959 – and now it’s back.
